Arequipa, on the way back to Chile.

I spent some time at the airport with Elke before she caught her connecting flight to Tacna. After catching a taxi to the city and getting a room the first stop was the Monasterio de Santa Catalina. This is a 400+ year old convent that was closed to the world for most of that time and only open to the public recently. Most of the nuns now spend their time in a much smaller part of the monestario. The rest has been turned into a rather interesting museum.

Here is another scanned postcard. I forgot my camera so postcards rule the day.

Here is a floor plan of the place and what I got for my admission fee. There are arrows that guide you thru the complex. I could have also gotten a guide rather cheaply, but passed.

The next day I visited the Franciscan Monestary on the other side of the town. They have a rather famous library with 400 year old books. Here is a sample of the library.

Here is just a small portion of the catherdral in the monestary and one of the many court yards.
